The Problem

Public blockchains broadcast every balance and every transfer amount. That makes payroll, treasury operations, RWA distributions and large trades unworkable onchain — institutions cannot expose counterparty positions, and traders leak their intent to MEV searchers before settlement.

The Solution

Zama wraps ordinary ERC-20s into ERC-7984 confidential tokens whose balances and transfer amounts are encrypted end-to-end with Fully Homomorphic Encryption. Contracts compute directly on the ciphertext, and decryption is gated by an onchain ACL and executed only by a 9-of-13 threshold MPC committee.

Why it Matters

Zama built TFHE-rs and FHEVM, the reference implementations the rest of the FHE-on-blockchain field builds against, and is the first production deployment of robust threshold-MPC FHE on a public chain. Confidentiality is composable — any EVM contract can hold encrypted state — and wrapper reserves stay publicly auditable even though user balances do not.
